Who senior driver coaching is for

Senior driver coaching in Christchurch suit drivers who:

  • Have been driving for years but want a confidence refresher
  • Are approaching a 75+ licence renewal and want to be prepared
  • Find new road layouts, roundabouts, or technology confusing
  • Have had a recent health change and want to check their driving is still safe
  • Are returning to driving after a break
  • Want family members to feel reassured about their driving

What a session covers

A one-hour senior driver coaching in Christchurch includes:

  • A 15-minute review of vehicle set-up: seat, mirrors, controls, and any unfamiliar technology
  • A 30-minute drive on a route of your choosing
  • A 15-minute debrief with honest, kind feedback
  • A written report sent to you after the session

Research shows 68% of participants gain more driving confidence after a coaching session, and 40% report improved knowledge of current road rules. The rules have changed quite a bit over the last few decades, and a refresher often clears up things that have quietly become habits.

Preparing for a 75+ licence renewal

In New Zealand, drivers renew their licence at age 75, again at 80, and every two years after that. Renewal requires a medical certificate from your GP, who will check your health and vision.

At 75, your renewed licence is valid for five years. At 80 and beyond, it's valid for two years.

Some drivers are asked to sit an on-road safety test as part of renewal. Senior driving lessons in Christchurch are a calm way to prepare. We can practise on the kind of routes you'd be assessed on, build your confidence with anything you're unsure about, and make sure you're ready before the official assessment.

A note on dignity

Senior driver coaching isn't a test. There's no pass or fail. The instructor's job is to support you, not to judge you. If something needs work, we'll work on it together. If everything's fine, we'll say so.

Many of our senior clients come back for a session every year or two as a tune-up. It's a sensible thing to do and there's no shame in it.

Frequently asked questions

1How much does a senior driving lesson cost?
$79 per hour including GST.
2Can I use my own car?
Yes. Many senior drivers prefer their own car because it's familiar. Just make sure it's insured for instruction.
3Will you tell my family how I drove?
Only if you want us to. The session report is yours. You decide who sees it.
4What if the instructor thinks I shouldn't be driving anymore?
We'll be honest with you. That conversation, if it ever needs to happen, is between you and us, not anyone else. We'd rather you hear it from a trained professional than have something go wrong on the road.
